SummerStart Learning Community
Join the SummerStart Learning Community!
Syracuse University is committed to promoting a culturally and socially diverse climate that supports the academic and personal development of each member of our community. Learning communities are integral to fostering this growth and development. Research has shown that participation in a learning community allows residents to develop skills that support higher academic achievement, improved quality of thinking and communicating, a better understanding of self and others, and a greater ability to balance academics and social lives.
SummerStart recognizes that life in years 2006-2010 and beyond will offer new challenges that will have academic, social and financial impact on our lives. This will require a new and ongoing examination of the meaning and implications of a global society; thus the SummerStart Learning Community will promote citizenship, leadership, and student activism through an understanding of issues of diversity in a global society. Students enrolled in the Learning Community will take their SummerStart Seminar and writing course together. In addition, students will participate in programs and activities throughout the summer that will help them explore the theme of the community. The Learning Community will exist in an environment that promotes a free exchange of ideas and intellectual stimulation. So, it is with great enthusiasm that we invite you to participate in SummerStart’s new residential learning community.
